Qualer Print is a versatile Windows application that can be used with print queues to send incoming files to the configured printer. This guide will walk you through the process of setting up and using Qualer Print, including a special use case for template-based label printing with Brother and Zebra printers.

Overview of Qualer Print

Qualer Print is installed on a computer directly connected to a printer or a local network with network printers. It listens to a special Qualer print queue, which can be configured to accept certificates and labels from work orders as they are generated. When a document appears in the desired print queue, Qualer Print automatically downloads it and sends it to the configured printer. You can also use Qualer Print to manage manual print queues.

Qualer Print requires a regular HTTP/SSL browsing channel to listen to the print queue and download printable certificates and labels. It does not send any information back to Qualer. The application uses ClickOnce installation technology, which checks for new version releases over the same HTTP/SSL channel and installs updates automatically upon confirmation.

Configuring Print Queues

Print queues are configurable by a company and can be associated with specific types of reports and/or specific employees. When a report is generated (manually or automatically), it ends up in a print queue configured to accept this type of report. A print queue may also accept only reports generated or uploaded by specific employees.

The application supports multiple queues. For instance, there could be separate queues for labels and certificates to be printed on different printers or from different paper trays on the same printer. The application displays a list of recently printed files with the option to open the file on the local computer and re-print it if necessary.

Setting Up Qualer Print

Phase 1: Qualer Web

  1. Navigate to the Operation Settings within the Administration Module and select the Print Queues tab.
  2. Type in a Queue Name, for example, “Certificates”.
  3. Choose between "Auto Print" and "Manual Print" options based on your preference.
  4. If you want to restrict the printing to specific employees, select "Restrict by Employee (optional)" and choose the employees. Note that only these users will be able to generate this report automatically. You can add as many employees as desired.
  5. Select the "Printable Reports" that you want to be able to print through this queue.
  6. After configuring the Print Queue, note down the Queue ID from the Print Queues tab within Operation Settings.

Phase 2: Qualer Print

Now, proceed to download and install the Qualer.Print application. You can do this from your Service -> Work Orders -> Toolbox -> Install Qualer.Print application.

When you download and install software like Qualer.Print, your browser, operating system, or antivirus software may display warnings or block the installation because the software is an executable (.exe) file, which has the potential to make changes to your system. While these warnings are important for protecting your system from malicious software, they can be bypassed for trusted software like Qualer.Print. Here's how you can do it:

  • Browser Warning: If your browser warns you about the download, there should be an option to keep the file or download it anyway. Look for a button or link with a label like "Keep", "Download Anyway", or "More Info".
  • Windows SmartScreen Warning: If you get a warning from Windows SmartScreen when you try to run the installer, click on "More Info", then click "Run Anyway".
  • Antivirus Software Warning: If your antivirus software blocks the installation, you may need to temporarily disable the antivirus software or add an exception for Qualer.Print. The exact steps will depend on the antivirus software you are using. Please refer to the software's help guide or support website for instructions.

Remember, it's important to only download and install software from trusted sources. If you're unsure about a warning or if you're having trouble installing the software, don't hesitate to contact Qualer's support team for assistance.

  • An install wizard will appear. Choose to install the application and follow the provided steps.
  • Open the Qualer.Print application. In the top-right quadrant, click Configure and then Add Queue.
  • Enter the Print Queue name and the Queue ID you noted down earlier, then select the Printer Name.
  • The dialog box will have three options:
    • Enabled: Turns the Queue on or off
    • Print as file: Enable this when you are printing files.
    • Print as image: Converts the file from vector to raster. In certain situations, this may improve or drastically worsen print quality.

Note: Leaving both "Print as file" and "Print as image" blank will instead stream the data as text which are used for printer templates.
  • Once all fields have been defined, click Save. If the Printer has been set up correctly, you will see a Green dot next to the Queue Name.

Using Qualer Print with Template-Based Label Printers

Qualer Print can be used with printers like Brother which support template-based label printing. This involves creating a label template in the printer's proprietary software (like P-touch Editor for Brother printers), generating a .label file in Qualer that references this template, and sending the .label file to the printer via Qualer Print.

For a list of compatible printers, please refer to our Printer Compatibility Guide.

Creating a Label Template

  1. Download and install the printer's proprietary software (like P-touch Editor for Brother printers).
  2. Open the software and create a new label layout.
  3. Design your label using the software's tools. You can add text, images, barcodes, and other elements.
  4. Compose the line of text that will populate the template. Use printer commands. These can be set or obtained in P-touch Template mode as well as this manual.
  5. Save the label design as a template and ensure it is on your printer.
  6. Send Qualer Support the line of text that needs to populate the label print template explaining each component. For example:

    ^TS001{AssetTag}~{ServiceDate}~{DueDate}~{SerialNumber}~{EquipmentId}^FF

^TS001 command selects the template in the printer.
~ is a delimiter between fields.
^FF indicates the end of the data.
