Assigning a Role to Your Tool

Before configuring your tool in the Qualer system, you must assign a specific role to each asset. For step-by-step instructions on assigning roles to assets, refer to our comprehensive guide.

Scenario 1: Configuring Scales/Balances & Weight Sets as Calibration Tools

In calibration, weight sets often act as Reference Standards to calibrate scales or balances (Units Under Test - UUT). For example, a weight set ranging from 1 gram to 100 grams can be used to validate the accuracy of a scale.

Steps to Set Up a Scale/Balance and Weight Set in Qualer:

  1. Create Assets for Both Tools:

    • Create an asset entry for the scale/balance to be calibrated.
    • Create a separate asset entry for the weight set, designating it as the Reference Standard.
  2. Assign Roles to Assets:

    • Set the role of the scale/balance as the Unit Under Test (UUT).
    • Assign the role of the weight set as the Reference Standard.
  3. Access Tool Configuration:

    • Navigate to the Tool Configuration screen after assigning roles.
  4. Configure the Reference Standard:

    • Update the Name and Description fields for clear identification.
    • Compliance Tab: Complete all necessary compliance fields.
    • Tool Ranges:
      • Go to the Tool Range tab and select “Add Range/Mode.”
      • Enter the details in the Tool Range/Mode pop-up, then click OK to confirm.
      • Ranges will be pre-selected; you can disable or delete specific ranges as needed.
  5. Apply Uncertainty Settings:

    • Qualer will apply the appropriate uncertainty values based on the selected tool range.
  6. Set Reference Values in Tool Ranges:

    • Specify precise reference values in the Tool Ranges for accurate calibration.
  7. Assign Resolutions:

    • On the Edit Tool Range/Mode page, enter the tool’s resolution (e.g., “.0001”) to define the precision for display in work orders.

Reference Standard Modes for Calibration

In Qualer, Reference Standards can operate in three distinct modes based on the calibration needs:

  • Meter Mode:

    • Used when the scale acts as the meter.
    • The tool’s range should match the measured value for calibration (e.g., verifying weights on the scale).
  • Source Mode:

    • Used when the weight set acts as the reference source.
    • This setting provides a single reference value, suitable for calibrating scales.
  • Set Mode:

    • Combines multiple reference points, allowing multiple weights to form a single reference source.
    • Ideal for weight sets where different weights are combined for calibration.

By configuring assets correctly in Qualer and selecting the appropriate mode, you can ensure accurate calibration and compliance with your organization’s standards.
