Overview

This article explains how to view and modify custom asset attributes in bulk using the bulk-edit and import function. This feature saves time when you need to update custom attribute values across multiple assets simultaneously.

What You Can Do

  • Export assets with their custom attributes as named columns
  • Edit custom attribute values for multiple assets in a spreadsheet
  • Import the updated data back into the system
  • Update both standard asset properties and custom attributes in one operation

Before You Begin

  • You must have appropriate permissions to modify assets
  • This functionality works for internal custom asset attributes only
  • Client Asset Attributes cannot be modified using this method

Exporting Assets with Custom Attributes

  • Navigate to the Asset Manager
  • Select Assets you wish to modify by checking them
  • Click the Bulk-edit and import toolbox action
  • Click Download File to download the file in Excel format
  • The exported file will contain standard asset properties followed by columns for each custom attribute, using the attribute name as the column header.

Editing Custom Attributes in Bulk

  • Open the exported file using a spreadsheet application (e.g., Microsoft Excel)
  • Locate the columns that represent your custom attributes (they will use the exact attribute names as headers)
  • Edit the values as needed
  • Save the file in the same format it was exported in (CSV or Excel)

Importing Updated Custom Asset Attributes

  • Navigate to Asset Manager
  • Select Assets to view the asset listing
  • Click the Bulk-edit and import toolbox action
  • Click "Import assets..." Select your updated file using the file browser

The system will validate your file and show a preview of changes

Best Practices

  • Always export a fresh copy of data before editing to work with current values
  • Do not modify the column headers or asset identifiers
  • Consider making a backup of your data before performing a large import
  • Test with a small batch of assets first if you're new to this process
