Overview:
This article explains the recent change related to asset attributes and decimal places. It will cover the importance of matching decimal places to the asset attribute value and the new options available for controlling decimal places in measurement.
Why is this Important?
When working with asset attributes in a unit under test, it is critical to ensure that decimal places are correctly interpreted. Previously, the system interpreted the number of decimal places directly from the number of digits present. However, this approach caused issues when the asset attribute contained values with decimals in different formats, like "5" or "0.00001."
What Has Changed?
Rounding Options:
The new behavior introduces an option that matches decimal places to the number of decimals in the asset attribute, with a slight reorganization and renaming of existing options.
Old Behavior:
- The system used the actual number of decimals in the asset attribute to determine how many decimal places should be applied during measurement.
New Behavior:
- The previous option, "Match decimal places to that of the asset attribute value," will work as it did before.
- A new option, "Set number of decimal places from the asset attribute," has been added. This new option will extract the exact number of decimal places directly from the asset attribute, ensuring that the measurement complies with the SciCal requirements.
New Options for Decimal Handling:
The list of rounding options has been updated as follows:
- Select decimal places or significant figures in the work order
- Force specific number of decimal places
- Force specific number of significant figures
- Set specific number of decimal places from the asset attribute (new option)
- Match decimal places to that of the asset attribute value
- Match decimal places to that of the tool attribute value
- Match decimal places to selected tool range resolution
- Get decimal places from the first reading in the set
- Get decimal places from the first reading in each point
Where to See and Apply These Changes
To view and apply these changes in the system, follow these steps:
- Navigate to the Asset Attributes section for the unit under test.
- Check the decimal value of the attribute in question (e.g., "5" or "0.00001").
- In the measurement configuration settings, choose the appropriate rounding option:
- If you want to match decimal places directly to the asset attribute, select Match decimal places to that of the asset attribute value.
- If you need to explicitly set the number of decimal places from the asset attribute, choose Set specific number of decimal places from the asset attribute.
This update ensures that your measurement reflects the correct number of decimal places based on the asset attribute or the selected rounding method.
